THE DIAMOND TILE MIX – bretonLABS by bretonlabs

One of our new favorite UK acts, Breton will be next touring in London March 28th, Manchester March 29th and Leeds March 30th.

I saw them earlier this fall, opening for Ghostpoet, at Scala, and as their reputation precedes them of “must see live,” after seeing their performance, I can’t wait to catch them again. Energetic, fun, and such good beats, period.

Le Miel du Mois Mars 2011

lmdm

The new Le Miel du Mois from Et Musique Pour Tous is now up for the month of March…two tracks are below as is the link to stream and download the full tape. Some words behind the wisdom:

A 1964 song opens this one. Another track I wanted to single out is Star Slinger’s remix of The Go! Team’s Apollo Throwdown and also the Diamond Messages track, which I fell in love with on the spot when EMPT posted it a few weeks ago. I found 3D Friends when we interviewed the SKINS 19 year old music supervisor from London, you can check out that interview here, and the closer to the mix, White Wishes is another one (all of their material is available to download for free on their bandcamp page)- everything I listen to by them, I love.

For the full tape: download and stream.

The Drums – Me and The Moon (Clock Opera Remix)

Lykke Li – I Follow Rivers (The Magician Remix)

Big Sean Cipher Session

Big-Sean

Last week, we caught Big Sean at the Def Jam One Stop Shop Cipher Session at S.O.B.s in NYC – a monthly exhibition of raw talent, up-and-coming rap and hip hop artists and recently signed Def Jam artists.  The first in the series, this Cipher Session’s main attraction was Big Sean.  And it was awesome.  We couldn’t spit like the rest of them, but we loved every minute of it. And our indie ears perked up when Sean performed his version of the Hockey song “Too Fake,” which is on his Finally Famous Vol. 3 mixtape and features Hockey along with Chiddy Bang.  You can download the mixtape (came out in September) for free from XXL Magazine HERE.  The recorded version of this song does not do the live show justice, I have to say, so if you get a chance to catch Big Sean, do it.  Also, you’ll get to hear him say my favorite line of the night: I smoke good but I f*ck better.

Le Miel du Mois: Septembre is up on Et Musique Pour Tous.  Click on the tape above to listen in full and download the monthly mixtape for *free* – the track list is below and here’s what I had to say about September…

There are a ton of amazing new acts out right now. Lefse Records and Arcade Sound are two labels I always watch closely because they just seem to know how to pick em.

This month’s LMDM highlights a lot of new breakouts including Brooklyn based Bronze (unsigned), San Francisco’s Blackbird Blackbird (Arcade Sound) and Dominant Legs (Lefse Records), Cleveland’s Cloud Nothings (Old Flame Records), 19 year old Brooklyn based Oberhofer (7″ out on now), Hamburg’s Dirty Disco Youth (Dim Mak) and Chicago’s My Gold Mask (unsigned). And with summer (sigh) over, these artists give us a lot to look forward to with a breath of fresh air in their respective genres. Go get your hands on as much of their stuff as you can, support them and buy their EP’s/albums.

Tracklisting:

The Meters – Hand Clapping Song
The Temper Trap – Love Lost (Keljet Remix)
Cloud Nothings – Hey Cool Kid
Au Revoir Simone – Tell Me (Clock Opera Remix)

Blackbird Blackbird – Pure
Royksopp – This Space
Bill Withers – Who Is He (Henrik Schwarz Edit)
My Gold Mask – Bitches (The Hood Internet remix)

Summer Camp – Ghost Train
Dirty Disco Youth – Minds Off (Teen Symmetry Remix)

DIRTY DISCO YOUTH

dirty disco youth

Phil Speiser is 19. He is from Hamburg/Vienna. He is an electro producer and DJ and one of Hamburg’s biggest electro acts right now.   And I bet, that wherever he is at this very moment, he is most likely tired. I don’t know why but I envision him staying up all night, every night, playing and dancing on a giant glitter dance floor, playing to the world. He is Dirty Disco Youth.

Dirty Disco Youth is maybe one of the greatest DJ/Producer names I have heard – it’s just a sweet a** name. And to top off the sweetness, his upcoming album is coming out on Steve Aoki’s Dim Mak Records.

The greatest and latest to come out of Dirty Disco Youth is his “Holiday Mixtape.” I discovered it on NYC blog NYCElectro, which is definitely worth a daily look, if you don’t already…the holiday mixtape opens with Black Box “Ride of Time” –> Friendly Fires “Paris” (Aeroplane Remix) –> Fatboy Slim “Fatboy Slim is F***ing in Heaven” …and later into one of my favorites: Classixxx “I’ll Get You.”

It’s also free to download on his website:  here. So go get that, but for now, a teen treat:

Harder Better Faster Stronger is something forthebeat can relate to now more than ever – everything seems to be getting bigger and better. This month’s Le Miel du Mois is fast fun that I hope will rock your tape til it pops. Enjoy the last month of summer. Make it count.

Le Miel du Mois: Juillet

polock

Et Musique Pour Tous publishes my monthly mixtape at the 1st of each month. The mixtape is available to stream as individual tracks or you can download the entire 1 hour mix to your ipod as one track.

A fan of the tapes described one of the summer mixes of ‘09 like this: “it’s like dancing around the edge of a pool late night with a drink and a cigarette and oversized t-shirts and sometimes getting pushed in and you never remember the photos that get taken but you laugh the whole time,” I hope you’ll agree the 2010 Le Miel du Mois summer tapes envokes the same. The picture above is from Polock, Valencia based band that just released their EP. Definitely one to check out if you haven’t already; another is Baby Jazz (Elgin Braden of Aux Arc and Sam Cooper of Sunglasses) with the opening track “The Song for the Season” with lyrics including “Yes, its Christmas time” I knew this was a perfect opener for the July mix… Happy Independence Month.

Two Door Cinema Club – What You Know (LightsoverLA Remix)

Charlotte Gainsbourg – Time of the Assasins (XXXChange Remix)
