Sincerely Yours, The Tough Alliance

When you go to this website, all it says is “Be Still.” Pretty ironic, since it’s the home page, and only page on the official site for The Tough Alliance. Not only does this electro pop duo make you want to get up out of your seat and party, but they are also responsible for introducing you to many more artists and tunes that require dance floor dedication via their label Sincerely Yours, which boasts acts including Air France, jj and Memory Tapes, among others.
Henning Fürst and Eric Berglund, friends since childhood, formed The Tough Alliance in Sweden in 2003, debuting the first of four EPs in 2004 and their most recent of three proper albums in 2007.
The upbeat tracks make for a provocative live performance, and the duo have become known for outlandish onstage antics, inviting the crowd to participate in their show and, at times, swinging baseball bats on stage, something that caused the Swedish media to recognize the band as violent.
Regarding a SXSW 2008 show, The Fader wrote: They stand at the front of the stage looking maniacally over your head or pose in front of the video projection, letting its waves crash over their heads. This whole time they are shouting their songs at a volume barely audible over the backing tracks. But, if you shout along, it makes more sense. The lyrical volume catches up. And the next thing you know, The Tough Alliance is standing next to you on the floor and you are singing together, not singing into a mic for a second when they let you but you are part of the group.
That sounds pretty awesome. Sweden is too sensitive. But they have produced some damn good music the past couple of years.
Two of my favorite The Tough Alliance tracks are “A New Chance” and “Neo Violence.” But TTA recently put out a remix album titled Prison Break, featuring remixes by El Guincho, jj, Shazam, Laidback Luke and Woolfy. I love the originals, but check out the remixes here…
